Huaqing IP · Amazon Brand Registry China CNIPA-recorded trademark agency

Can I use a Chinese (CNIPA) trademark for Amazon Brand Registry?

Yes — a mainland-China trademark registered with CNIPA (国家知识产权局) is accepted by Amazon Brand Registry, including for sellers who manufacture or source in China and sell on Amazon US, EU, UK, Japan and beyond. This page covers exactly what is accepted, how long it takes, and the five reasons enrollments get rejected.

What Amazon accepts

Registered mark (®) — always

A CNIPA registration certificate is the safest. Enter the registration number and select the China (CNIPA) trademark office.

Pending mark (™) — accepted from recognised offices

Amazon's stated policy also accepts a pending application from a recognised trademark office. CNIPA is a recognised office; whether a specific early-stage number is taken depends on the Amazon marketplace and current review. The registration certificate is the reliable route.

Word or design mark

A word mark is simplest. For a logo/design mark the uploaded image must match the registered specimen exactly.

Madrid / WIPO designating China

If your right flows from a Madrid registration, enter the WIPO number carefully — entering it in the wrong field is a common cause of rejection.

Not sure which number you hold? Check it with the tool below, or ask us to confirm before you submit.

Step-by-step: from China filing to Brand Registry

  1. File the China trademark in the exact brand spelling you will use on Amazon, through a CNIPA-recorded agent (foreign applicants without a China address must use one).
  2. Receive the application number / acceptance notice (受理通知书), usually within ~2–4 weeks. This is not yet a registration.
  3. Wait for examination and publication (substantive examination ~4–7 months, then publication). A smooth China application takes roughly 6–9 months to the certificate.
  4. Enrol in Brand Registry — select the China/CNIPA office, enter the number, and make sure the brand text is an exact character-for-character match.
  5. Receive the verification code (Amazon sends it to the registered agent/rights holder; we forward it) and complete enrolment.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enrol while my China trademark is still pending?

Amazon's policy accepts pending marks from recognised offices, and CNIPA is recognised. In practice, early-stage acceptance varies by marketplace and review, so the registration certificate is the reliable path. We can confirm what your target marketplace currently accepts before you rely on a pending number.

Does the brand name have to match exactly?

Yes — this is the single most common rejection. Spelling, capitalisation, spacing and punctuation must match the mark character for character. For a design mark the image must be identical.

I have a Madrid registration designating China — which number do I use?

Use the WIPO/Madrid number in the appropriate field, not a CNIPA number. Entering it in the wrong place causes a rejection. If unsure, send it to us and we'll tell you which field to use.

Can my Chinese manufacturer file and then enrol for me?

No — Brand Registry must be submitted by the rights owner/brand, not the factory. It is also risky to let the manufacturer own the China mark, since they then control your brand in China. File it in your own entity.

How long until I can enrol?

A smooth China application takes about 6–9 months to the certificate. Plan the filing well before your Amazon launch, or ask us whether your target marketplace accepts a pending number to start earlier.
